Oret was founded in 2020 in Nairobi, Kenya. The founder recognized that individuals and families had fragmented knowledge about their ancestry due to migration, adoption, and historical events such as the slave trade and political upheavals. And he felt the urge to bridge the gaps using a platform that could help African families create their family tree, upload photos, and preserve their family stories, traditions, and rich African heritage
